What do I get with a paid membership?

When you join as a paid member, you become part of one of North America's fastest-growing overlanding and off-roading communities. Your membership comes with two key benefits: access to dozens of free events throughout the year and exclusive GPX files (digital maps) for the routes featured in our guides.

Access to Events
OTG and our Trail Ambassadors host dozens of trail runs and campouts each year. While most of these events are free, a standard or premium membership is required to participate. Similar guided tours can cost anywhere from $500 to $1,500, making your membership an incredible value.

North America's Largest Directory of Curated Overland Routes
Your subscription grants you access to download dozens of GPX files that remain behind our paywall.   These GPX files include dozens and sometimes event hundreds of interesting POIs (points of interest), discovery points, and camp sites (campgrounds as well as dispersed camp sites) from hours of intensive research about the route and surrounding area.

The above map features the GPX file for the Lost Coast 4x4 Trail, that is being viewed in Gaia GPS.  We can see the "main" track outlined in purple, while one of the alternative routes is in light below.  The various icons represent the numerous POIs and Discovery Points along the route, including gas stations, camp sites, and camp ground.

Native Compatibility with Gaia GPS
While our GPX files will work with any mapping application or hardware that accepts GPX files, Gaia GPS subscribers will see maps like the one above, where Gaia's native mapping icons display.  If you load one of our GPX files into OnX Off Road or a Garmin Device, you'll still see the tracks and pins, but the pins will show up as generic pins (usually in red).

Thousands of Dispersed Camp Sites!
One of the biggest benefits of our GPX files is that they include dozens of dispersed camp sites along a given track.  This saves our members invaluable time seeking out dispersed camp sites in areas they may not be familiar with.  â€‹â€‹â€‹The camp sites featured below are dispersed sites (undeveloped) along the East Mojave Heritage Trail.

Discovery Points for the Win!
When you're out exploring the backcountry, there's a lot to see and do.  Nearly all of our routes include discovery points.  These are points of interest that may be historical in nature (mining camps or ghost towns), a beautiful view, or an interesting natural site, such as a waterfall or arch.  Discovery Points are a fantastic way to learn about the area you're exploring, and should help you narrow down the things you'd like to see and do.

Detailed GPX Files
We believe we have the most detailed GPX files on the market.  In addition to the dozens or even hundreds of POIs, discovery points, and camp sites you'll find in a GPX file, many of our files now include detailed information about a particular POI or discovery point.  Simply click the pin to expose details about a particular POI or discovery point.

Flagship Routes: Tracks for Long Distance Travelers

We know that a small subset of you are hardcore overlanders, traveling full time, or for several months out of the year.  OTG features a growing number of Flagship Routes.  Most of these routes take weeks, or months to complete, and and most are at least 1,500 miles long.  You'll find well known long-distance tracks like Pacific Crest Overland Trail and Pony Express on our site, along with proprietary tracks like the Great American Outback Trail and Trans-Rockies Adventure Trail.  Many of these tracks are adventures of a lifetime!  To gain access to our flagship routes, you'll need a premium subscription.

Standard vs Premium Subscription
The standard subscription will gain you access to join any free event for OTG along with dozens of overland routes (over 70 as of 2024) across the United States and Canada.  Your subscription grants you access to download the GPX files for standard routes.  The premium subscription includes access to all standard routes, in addition to routes in Mexico/BajaFlagship Routes, and any international routes outside of N. America (GPX Files).
